Morning Report
Report for the period 16:00 31 May
to 07:00 1 June 1997
The current alert level is ORANGE

Pyroclastic flow activity has continued overnight at a low level. The volcano has been cloudy since day break, so no views of the volcano have been possible. It is likely that growth continues at the summit of the dome, with small pyroclastic flows over a wide sector of the dome, from the north to the south-east. A few of the rockfall signals were preceded by long-period earthquakes.

Small pyroclastic flows have already entered Tuitt's Ghaut and the continued growth of the dome makes it probable that more pyroclastic flows will enter Tuitt's and the other northern Ghauts. Large pyroclastic flows could occur with no warning in both the Tar and White River valleys.. Nobody should enter zones A and B and only essential visits to the central corridor should be made. The central corridor should not be used as a route to the airport.
