Montserrat Volcano Observatory

Morning Report
Report for the period 16:00 28 April
to 07:00 29 April 1997
The current alert level is AMBER

The volcano has been quiet overnight. The only seismic signals have been rockfalls and small pyroclastic flows within the upper White River area, and some long-period earthquakes. The level of activity has been about the same as yesterday. There have been no VT or hybrid earthquakes.

The summit area of the volcano is cloud-covered at present so that no views of the dome have been possible thus far today.

The volcano remains in a dangerous state and rapid changes in the level of activity are possible. Only essential visits should be made to Zone C, and people should wear ash masks when in ashy environments. All of Zone A, which includes Long Ground and St Patrick's, is very dangerous and should not be entered under any circumstances.
