Morning Report
Report for the period 16:00 25 April
to 07:00 26 April 1997
The current alert level is AMBER

Volcanic activity has remained at a fairly low level overnight. There have been some rockfalls and small pyroclastic flows, at about the same level as yesterday. The largest pyroclastic flow occurred at 7:00 am, and resulted in an ash cloud which drifted to the west. There were also some long-period earthquakes, but no hybrid or VT earthquakes. In fact there have been no hybrids or VTs since Tuesday. Periods with low numbers of earthquakes in the past have been associated with free dome growth- the last such period was during growth of the December 11 dome last year.

The volcano remains in a dangerous state and rapid changes in the level of activity are still possible. All citizens of Montserrat are requested to stay alert, especially when in Zone C. People should wear ash masks when in ashy environments. All of Zone A, which includes Long Ground and St Patrick's, is still very dangerous and should not be entered under any circumstances.
