Morning Report
Report for the period 16:00 08 April
to 07:00 09 April 1997
The alert level has been reduced to AMBER

.

The level of seismic activity has remained very low overnight. The only seismic signals have been a few moderate rockfalls. This morning, the volcano is fairly clear, although the visibility is not as good as yesterday.

The alert level changes back to Amber this morning. However, the volcano remains active and dangerous, with a very large dome which could begin to collapse at any time. People should exercise caution when visiting the areas close to the volcano. Further pyroclastic flows and ash clouds are expected, and the situation could escalate rapidly. All of Zone A, which includes Long Ground and St Patrick's, is very dangerous and should not be entered under any circumstances.
