Over the last 24 hours there was a resumption of shallow volcano - tectonic earthquakes with over 50 events being recorded. They came in three distinct swarms over the reporting period.

The Oct 1st dome (dome # 2) has continued to grow rapidly and there have been over 70 rockfall signals during the last 24 hours. In addition small pyroclastic flows have been occurring.

Visibility was poor for most of the recording period however satelite pictures have shown ashclouds drifting westwards to some 200 miles from Montserrat.

COSPEC measurements to see how much gas is in the atmosphere and results show the low level of 400 tonnes per day. GPS measurements were also taken today.

The alert remains at ORANGE.
