Ruapehu Volcanic Activity

Situation Summary

As of 1600 hours, the following information is available.


*     Today the volcanic tremor has continued at fluctuating but
relatively low levels.  The tremor record from the Dome (summit)
fluctuated between intervals of moderate to low tremor.

*     The weather conditions today have prevented visual observations of
the volcano.  Field staff working near the Desert Road have reported only
minor ash falls.

*     Reports from commercial flights via Civil Aviation report ash plumes
this afternoon to about 16000 ft.


Summary and Alert Status

The present eruption episode is continuing at a reduced level, with
semi-continuous ash emmisions.  

We advise that the Alert Level remains at 3.
