                       Friday, August 13, 1993

The summit eruption continues but the volcano was obscured by clouds
most of the week. On August 13, the gas and ash plume was as high as
200 meters above the crater. Seismic activity decreases.

Observations made from Helicopter by V. Kirianov and S. Zharinov on
August 8, indicated the following volcanoes were in their typical
stage of moderate fumarolic activity: Mutnovskii, Avachinskii,
Karymskii, and Kizimen.
