These pictures show the eruption column shortly after the eruption had broken through the ice. They were taken by Freysteinn Sigmundsson.

The weather conditions were reasonable and several good pictures were taken. The first picture shows the eruption column from the west at a distance of 170 km. At this time it reaches ca. 10 km above sea level. The picture was taken by Kristjan Jonasson at 11.50 GMT.
