Notes from field observations

Jan. 3, 1995; Location - Eagle River; The ice shelf has built out to the first sand bar, aproximately 10m. Wind is out of the west, moderate in strength. An arc of small, <1m, inactive cones at the leading edge of the shelf. No activity.

Jan. 5, 1995; Location - Eagle River; The ice shelf has built out to the third sand bar, aproximately 50m. Wind is out of the northwest, strong. Three arcs of cones have formed with increasing size lakeward. The largest cone at the leading edge aproximately 6m in height. Several "eruptions" reach upwards of 10m. Highly active.

Jan. 6. 1995; Location - Eagle River to Eagle Harbor; The ice shelf has not built out any further. No activity at Eagle river. The only "eruptions" taking place are at rocky points with subaerial reefs. Wind is out of the North, strong. Moderate activity.

Jan. 8, 1995; Location - Eagle River to Eagle Harbor. No activity at Eagle River. Moderate activity at rocky shores and rocky points with subaerial reefs. Wind out of the southwest, strong.

Jan. 12, 1995; Location - Calumet Water Works; The ice shelf has built out to the second of 2 sand bars. The arc of cones at the shore were slightly larger than the arc over the first sand bar, <2m in height. The cones of the arc over the second sand bar are 2-3m in height. Wind out of the south, breezy. No activity.

Jan. 15, 1995; Location - Eagle River; The lakeward arc (over the third sand bar) has partially collapsed due to the unseasonably warm weather and off shore winds this past week. Wind out of the Northwest, slight. No activity.
