Scholarship Opportunities

 


Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG) is providing several scholarships and awards for women.  These include:

Chrysalis Scholarship: Two $2,000 awards covering thesis-completion expenses for women graduate students whose studies have been interrupted for at least a year.  Applications are due March 31.

Minority Scholarship: One or more awards totaling $5,000 for undergraduate women who are African-American, Hispanic, or Native American. Applications are due May 15.

Geologist-in-the-Parks: Three positions with $2,500 stipends for women graduate students or professionals to work a term in a National Park with the NPS.  Applications are due April 1.


Additionally, AWG also provides these awards:

Winifred Goldring Award: This includes a one-year membership in both AWG and the Paleontolgoical Society for a female student pursuing a career in paleontology.  Applications due by October 1.

Brunton Award: A Brunton pocket transit is awarded to a female studnet who demonstrates excellence in geologic mapping that will lead to publication. The application deadline is due October 31.

National Ground Water Assocation

Applications for undergraduate scholarships from the NGWREF are now available at http://www.ngwa.org/about/ngwref/assante/index.aspx. Scholarships are granted to full-time undergraduate students only and previous scholarship recipients are ineligible. The applicant must be entering a field of  study that serves, supports, or promotes the ground water industry. The scholarship is available to high school graduates and students in college (four-year programs and well drilling two-year associate degree programs). A 2.5 GPA is mandatory for high school or college students. The deadline for submittal is April 1, 2006. Applicants will be advised of scholarship awards in August 2006. Some 309 applications were received for the 2005 scholarships offered by the Foundation's Len Assante Scholarship Fund. Some $8,000 is available for distribution, with $1,000 made available as four $250 awards for student presentations in honor of the late Robert Farvolden at the 2006 Ground Water Summit. Each year the amount of available scholarship funds may vary.

 


 

American Institute of Professional Geologists – Scholarship Program

Purpose:  To assist students with college education costs and to promote student participation in the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). Up to four scholarships will be awarded to declared undergraduate geological sciences majors who are at least sophomores.

 

Scholarship awards in the amount of $1,000.00 each will be made to eligible students attending a college or university in the U.S. Scholarships are to be used to support tuition and/or room and board.

Eligibility Requirements - Any student who is majoring in geology (or earth science), is at least a sophomore, and is attending a four-year accredited college or university in the U.S. can apply. Also, the student must be either a student member of AIPG or must have applied for student membership at the time the application for the scholarship is submitted. Each student who is awarded a scholarship agrees, by accepting the scholarship, to prepare a 600 to 800 word article for publication in The Professional Geologist. The subject of the article must be related to a timely professional issue.

Application Process - Applicants must submit: a letter of interest with name, mail and e-mail addresses, and telephone number; proof of enrollment in an eligible geological sciences program, transcripts; an original one-page essay on why the applicant wants to become a geologist; and a letter of support from a faculty member familiar with the applicant’s academic work. 2007 Michigan Section SPE Scholarship Award

the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Michigan Section. We are offering a $1,000 scholarship next year to a college student interested in the gas and oil industry. Midwest Gas Storage Section
2006-2007 Midwest Gas Storage SPE Scholarship


The Midwest Gas Storage Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers will be awarding a scholarship for the 2006-2007 academic year. The $1000 scholarship shall be applied toward the 2006 fall semester tuition for the student. The scholarship is open to both graduate and undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Petroleum Engineering or other related science or engineering curriculum (including, but not limited to: Geological Engineering, Geophysical Engineering, Mineral Engineering, Geology, Geophysics).

I have attached application forms which may be distributed electronically or in printed form. Also attached is an announcement flyer, which may be posted in an area accessible to students.

The primary purpose of our scholarship program is to assist in the perpetuation of the profession of petroleum engineering and petroleum technology curricula and to encourage students to purse petroleum related careers at accredited colleges and universities.

SEG Scholarship Program


Last year, SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) gave out hundreds of thousands of dollars (yes, around $400,000).  You can only receive these scholarships if you apply!!!!!!

Desk and Derrick educational trust scholarships:

The Association of Desk and Derrick Educational Trust, will accept scholarship applications for the 2006-07 academic year from students seeking degrees in fields related to the petroleum, energy and allied industries. Applications must be received by April 1, 2006 and can be found at www.addc.org.

Michigan Basin Geological Society

The Michigan Basin Geological Society will award one or more scholarships up to $500 to deserving students majoring in the Geological Sciences. The scholarship will be awarded in May. Candidates should use the Michigan Basin Geological Society scholarship application to submit their application.
