Scholarship Opportunities

 

National Ground Water Assocation

Applications for 2006 undergraduate scholarships from the NGWREF are now available at http://www.ngwa.org/about/auxsch.cfm. Scholarships are granted to full-time undergraduate students only and previous scholarship recipients are ineligible. The applicant must be entering a field of  study that serves, supports, or promotes the ground water industry. The scholarship is available to high school graduates and students in college (four-year programs and well drilling two-year associate degree programs). A 2.5 GPA is mandatory for high school or college students. The deadline for submittal is April 1, 2006. Applicants will be advised of scholarship awards in August 2006. Some 309 applications were received for the 2005 scholarships offered by the Foundation's Len Assante Scholarship Fund. Some $8,000 is available for distribution, with $1,000 made available as four $250 awards for student presentations in honor of the late Robert Farvolden at the 2006 Ground Water Summit. Each year the amount of available scholarship funds may vary.

 


 

American Institute of Professional Geologists – Scholarship Program

Purpose:  To assist students with college education costs and to promote student participation in the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). Up to four scholarships will be awarded to declared undergraduate geological sciences majors who are at least sophomores.

 

Scholarship awards in the amount of $1,000.00 each will be made to eligible students attending a college or university in the U.S. Scholarships are to be used to support tuition and/or room and board.

Eligibility Requirements - Any student who is majoring in geology (or earth science), is at least a sophomore, and is attending a four-year accredited college or university in the U.S. can apply. Also, the student must be either a student member of AIPG or must have applied for student membership at the time the application for the scholarship is submitted. Each student who is awarded a scholarship agrees, by accepting the scholarship, to prepare a 600 to 800 word article for publication in The Professional Geologist. The subject of the article must be related to a timely professional issue.

Application Process - Applicants must submit: a letter of interest with name, mail and e-mail addresses, and telephone number; proof of enrollment in an eligible geological sciences program, transcripts; an original one-page essay on why the applicant wants to become a geologist; and a letter of support from a faculty member familiar with the applicant’s academic work. Basis of Awards - Awards will be based on the content and creativity of the essays as judged by the Education Committee. The decisions of the Education Committee are final.

2007 Michigan Section SPE Scholarship Award

A scholarship award this year of $750 to either a college student or a high school senior who is admitted to a 4-year institution and is interested in the gas and oil industry. The deadline to submit the application materials is *July 1*. The recipient of the award will be determined by August 1. Midwest Gas Storage Section
2006-2007 Midwest Gas Storage SPE Scholarship


The Midwest Gas Storage Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers will be awarding a scholarship for the 2006-2007 academic year. The $1000 scholarship shall be applied toward the 2006 fall semester tuition for the student. The scholarship is open to both graduate and undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Petroleum Engineering or other related science or engineering curriculum (including, but not limited to: Geological Engineering, Geophysical Engineering, Mineral Engineering, Geology, Geophysics).

I have attached application forms which may be distributed electronically or in printed form. Also attached is an announcement flyer, which may be posted in an area accessible to students.

The primary purpose of our scholarship program is to assist in the perpetuation of the profession of petroleum engineering and petroleum technology curricula and to encourage students to purse petroleum related careers at accredited colleges and universities.

SEG Scholarship Program

Since its inception in 1956, the SEG Scholarship Program has provided more than US$4 million in funding for geoscience students all over the world. During the 2005–2006 academic year alone, the SEG Foundation granted US$268,100 to 136 students worldwide. Desk and Derrick educational trust scholarships:

The Association of Desk and Derrick Educational Trust, will accept scholarship
applications for the 2006-07 academic year from students seeking degrees in
fields related to the petroleum, energy and allied industries. Applications must
be received by April 1, 2006 and can be found at www.addc.org.

Michigan Basin Geological Society

The Michigan Basin Geological Society will award one or more scholarships
up to $500 to deserving students majoring in the Geological Sciences. The
scholarship will be awarded in May. Candidates should use the Michigan
Basin Geological Society scholarship application to submit their
