Beach Earns Hazardous Materials Research Award

PhD student Deborah Beach (GMES) has received a $10,000 award from the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management for her research project, "Modeling of Carbon Dioxide Sequestration in Industrial Waste Materials." She is working with her advisor, Associate Professor John Gierke, to develop a computer model of this new sequestration process which is being pioneered by professor Komar Kawatra and research engineer Tim Eisele (Chemical Engineering). She will also receive an additional $2,000 award from the Michigan Chapter of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers. The awards will be used for laboratory experiments in support of her model development.
