Geologist III, Mineral Resources Team

The Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) is seeking two, full-time permanent geologists to conduct field-based geologic projects in support of mineral-resource assessment.

These positions offer the successful applicants the opportunity to work on diverse geology throughout Alaska. Many regions of the state are poorly understood geologically and contain only limited scientific data. These are key positions within a diverse team of geoscientists and offers the opportunity to perform cutting edge science and publish new interpretations of complex geology in remote areas. The required field work can be physically demanding but also very rewarding for a field-oriented geologist. The successful candidates will use expertise in advanced igneous and metamorphic petrology, structural geology, and economic (ore deposit) geology to create bedrock geologic maps and to carry out mineral-resource-assessment projects throughout Alaska. We are particularly interested in applicants with strong geologic mapping skills. The successful applicants will work independently and collaboratively in all aspects of project work, compiling existing geologic data, collecting new field data, integrating and interpreting the data, and preparing new bedrock geologic maps and reports for publication in DGGS and other peer-reviewed publications.
