New Faculty for 2011-12

EZRA BAR-ZIV
Ezra Bar-Ziv joins the faculty as professor. He comes from the Department of Electro-Optics at Ben-Gurion University.

He earned a BS in Physics and Chemistry from the Hebrew University and a PhD in Chemical Physics from the Weizmann Institute of Science.

He has published more than 130 papers in technical journals and has had appointments at the University of Utah, MIT, the University of Illinois and Cornell.

Bar-Ziv is a member of the Combustion Institute, the Israeli Section of the Combustion Institute, the Carbon Society, the Optical Society of America and the Israeli Section of Crystal Growth.

STEVEN GOLDSMITH
Steven Goldsmith joins the faculty as research professor. He comes to Michigan Tech from Sandia National Laboratories.

He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, an MS in Electrical Engineering and a BE in Biomedical Engineering from the University of New Mexico.

Goldsmith has been published in the Sandia Report. He also holds several patents.

NINA MAHMOUDIAN
Nina Mahmoudian joins the faculty as assistant professor. She comes from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Maryland.

She earned a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the Amirkabir University of Technology, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the Khaje Nasir Toosi University of Technology, and a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech.

Mahmoudian is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Society of Women Engineers. Her research interests include an unmanned underwater laboratory, underwater gliders, reentry vehicles, space debris and space tourism and a two-seated utility aircraft.
