AVHRR Imagery of the Great Lakes
Lake Surface Temperatures

This AVHRR lake surface temperature image of the great lakes on September 3, 1992, shows temperature ranges of approximately 10-25 degrees C. The lower Great Lakes (Erie,southern Lakes Michigan and Huron) are conspicuously warmer than the northern lakes. Zones of upwelled cooler waters (shown in green) can be seen on the western shore of Lake Michigan and the north shores of Lakes Superior and Huron.
