` Meteorites

Meteorology

Thank you for visiting!
This page is designed in part for Bill Rose, GE404 - National Hazards (MTU)
and in part for continued learning about advanced mitigation of meteorites

The objective of this web page is to present an in-depth look at what meteorites are, and how they effect us. Hopefully because of this and other peoples work, geologists or any other interested individuals will be able to understand and evaluate the hazzards of meteorites. After learning more, we can set a long term goal of mitigation and control for safer living from this relatively un-thought about hazzard.

To best understand mitigation techniques, we must first understand what we are studying. After learning these common terms you will be able to follow the subject better.

A meteorite is a fragment of non-earthlin, or terrestrial, material that falls and strikes the surface of the earth. Even though this is not a problem that we constantly think about, more than 200 impact craters have been identified on the earth. An impact crater can be described by the formation that it creates, and can be seen here with examples.

There are a few major topics that need to be covered while looking at meteorites. I have therefore seperated everything by mitigation, factual geology background information, text information, and examples including graphics. Please feel free to comment (email-bottom of page) any suggestions, comments, or problems.

***Please note that if you have seen a meteorite, please report it.***
***This is the only way people can confirm locations and advance the field.***
***To correctly report an inpact or sighting, fill out and submit a sighting report form located here.***
