In many avalanche prone regions the landscape brings economic reward to the community in the form of tourism. Communities and ski resorts that rely on tourism must take into consideration the esthetic value of a defense structure. Earthen structures are displeasing esthetically because they require both removal of material and the addition of this material elsewhere. Concrete structures can be erected with the addition of natural vegetation to aid in its appearance.
