Overlook, US 41 Hancock

View from Portage Overlook on US 41 above Hancock, looking ESE to SSE toward Houghton with the Lift Bridge about .6 miles SE (above) and looking SSE to SW (below) with Whealkate Bluff (kame) at about 4.7 miles SW.  The Keweenaw Waterway bisects the view, and the approximate location of the Keweenaw Fault is the red line to the ESE, 3A is the Scales Creek lava Flow. 4B and 4C are two mine dumps which have been completely removed for building materials. Most of the view is above the Portage Lake Volcanics, hundreds of lava flows and a dozen conglomerates which extend from the ESE along the fault all the way across to SW (6, below, right) where the Copper Harbor Conglomerate contact is located.
