Artesian Well

Water can flow from a well without pumping--a real gift.  Finding these geological circumstances is advantageous and we also must think about how it happens to understand where our water comes from.  Here near Centennial, people have been harvesting this gift for 100 years.

How do the dipping layers of the Keweenaw relate to Artesian wells?

Do we have them?

Can you describe where they might be found?

How does the Michigan Basin relate to Artesian wells?

Describe where they are likely in downstate MI.

Water flows from swampy ground near the Centennial #6 down a permeable layer (Allouez Conglomerate?) to the drill hole, and the gravitational momentum is enough to propel it all the way up the hole to the surface! Hallelujah!
