I am in the Michoacán Volcanic field with Isaac Abimelec Farraz
from the Instituto de Vulcanología in UNAM. We are using the LI-COR
(an infrared CO2 analyzer with an accumulation chamber that we seal to the
soil) to measure flux of CO2 from the soil over a grid in the volcanic
field. Because CO2 is released with magmatic activity, we are testing
this out as a way of determining where future activity is likely to occur in
monogenetic fields.
