January 20, 2005
Well, once
again, I have slacked on the updates! Sorry, but as most of you know,
I've been qutie busy again! Let's see, my last update was in June
2004, so I'll start there.
I made a trip to Alaska for 3 weeks in late July last
year! It was a lot of fun. Alaska is a gorgeous state. I
was invited by the Alaska Volcano Observatory to go and help them build a
mini-DOAS (the equipment we've been working with here and then to go to the
field and test it. We spent about 2 weeks in Cold Bay in the Aleutian
Islands and visited several volcanoes - Pavlof, Hague, Veniaminoff and
Shishaldin. Click here for volcano
pics. I also have some scenery pics of Alaska here.
At the end of September, Jason and I moved, yet again.
We're becoming one of those family members that you only pencil in their
address and phone number!! But, we were very excited about our
move. We know are in a 2 bedroom house that is really spacious.
And, if you can believe it, we're even closer to school than before - right
in town.
In October, things began to be "not-so-good".
Jason began having some strange symptoms and it was discovered that he was
having "mini-strokes". We were referred to the Mayo Clinic
in Rochester, MN and spent a good portion of November and December
traveling back and forth and spending time there. A lot of tests were
run and several doctors were consulted and it was finally determined that
Jason did indeed have several heart defects and that he would need
open-heart surgery! The surgery was performed on Dec. 7 and it went
perfectly! Jason was in the hospital for about a week afterward and
had a few weeks of feeling pretty rough, but is doing really well
now. He even started back to school on Jan. 10 and is feeling better
every day! We're extremely grateful to the doctors at Mayo.
In the midst of this crappy news, we did get some very
exciting and happy news! Just before Thanksgiving, Jason and I found
out that we're pregnant!! I'm due on July 18 and we're really
excited. Also, even with Jason being down, we were able to make it
home for Christmas, which we both really needed!
Recently, Jason and I are spending a lot of time getting back
into the groove of school and cheering for our amazing Pittsburgh
Steelers!!
