GEOTHERMAL
  RESOURCES
IN  PACIFIC  LATIN  AMERICA

This page is a research tool for those interested in geothermal resources.    It provides links to outside websites and documents relevant to the field.  For those unfamiliar with geothermal energy, click the "overview of geothermal energy" link for an excellent (but large) introductory document.

An overview of geothermal energy

Geothermal Energy in Pacific Latin America

Because of the region's large amount of volcanism, potential large-scale development of renewable geothermal energy technology in Latin America is very large.  The region is a leader in research and development and implementation of such technology, as well as a great testament to the ability of developing nations to support renewable energy development.

The following reports, published by the Geothermal Resource Council in 2003, summarize current projects in the region and are great starting points for research and information.

Costa Rica Nicaragua Guatemala El Salvador

For further information on specific countries, I recommend checking out the International Geothermal Association's page about the Carribean and Latin America.

This site is a good resource for anyone trying to teach geothermal ideas to anyone else, especially K-12 grades.

Geothermal Resources Council

This is a fantastic resource for everything geothermal: included are an excellent links page, a virtual tour of a geothermal plant, workshop and conference announcements, publication lists, an extensive searchable geothermal library, and much more.

International Geothermal Association

The IGA keeps a very well updated site which summarizes worldwide use of geothermal energy use and development.  Included are sections specific to Central and South America, as well as links to journals which publish geothermal information.

World Energy Council, Geothermal Page

This page has a great overview of different geothermal systems and basic of geothermal energy.  The WEC also has great information about other energy production methods and resources as well.
