Fuego, Acatenango, and Agua volcanoes, Guatemala (Jan 2002)

Fuego Volcano - current activity started on Jan 4, 2002, with ash explosions, avalanches, and lava flows.  COSPEC measurements of SO2 flux are currently (April 7, 2002) at about 800 tons/day.  Fuego's last big eruption was on 1974.  Approximately 50,000 people live on the flanks of the volcano, with one of the worst hazards been the occurrence of lahars or volcanic mudflows.
